Sloppy Joe

Working on a Sloppy Joe Recipe

Restriction: no dairy

First attempt:

1 Onion, diced

1 Green Pepper, diced

~1.75lb Ground Beef

1 can (28oz) Crushed Tomatoes

1/8 tsp Ground Cumin

3 Cloves Garlic, pressed

Black Pepper

Hamburger Rolls

 

Cook Tomatoes, Cumin, Garlic, and 7-8 turns Black Pepper in sauce pan.

Saute Onions and Green Pepper.  Add Ground Beef and Brown.

Stir in Tomato mixture.

Serve over Hamburger Rolls.

 

Thoughts:  Something’s missing.  Stronger tomato taste than I’d like; it tastes more like a goulash base than a sloppy joe mix.   Needs more salt.  Initial research turned up several recipes calling for brown sugar, and one with soy sauce.  Maybe I’ll try one of those next time.
